Craig Lilburn: counselling for men
How I Work:
I offer a calm, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and at your own pace. My work is rooted in a Person-Centred approach, meaning I focus on understanding your experience rather than trying to fix or advise you. I believe meaningful change happens when you feel genuinely heard, respected, and safe.
Sessions are collaborative and shaped around what feels most important to you. We may explore current challenges, patterns that keep repeating, or how past experiences are still affecting the present. Where helpful, I draw on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Transactional Analysis to bring clarity and practical insight. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you’re ready, and therapy moves at a pace that feels right for you.
Starting Counselling:
It’s common for men to feel hesitant about starting counselling. You might question whether your problems are ‘serious enough’, feel unsure about talking openly, or worry about losing control. Many men come to therapy not knowing what to say or even why they’re there and that’s okay.
Counselling isn’t about weakness or being told what to do. It’s about taking time to understand yourself better and finding ways to cope that feel healthier and more sustainable. You remain in control of what you share, and there’s no expectation to be emotional or vulnerable straight away. Often, simply showing up is the most difficult step, but also the most important one.
About Me:
I am a counsellor with experience supporting people through anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, addiction, and identity-related challenges. Alongside my counselling work, I have a background in mentoring individuals through significant life experiences, which has shaped my practical and down-to-earth way of working.
As a man, I understand the pressures many men face to cope alone or stay silent about how they’re feeling. I aim to offer a space where you don’t need to perform, explain yourself, or have everything figured out. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you make sense of your experiences in a way that feels honest, manageable, and meaningful.
