About Therapy:        

From personal experience, I know that life sometimes presents us with challenges and situations that can leave us feeling anxious, depressed and confused. In my work as a psychotherapist and counsellor I have found that issues such as anxiety, depression and anger-management are often surface expressions of the need for a more fulfilling relationship with ourselves and our lives.

As men, we are not traditionally encouraged to acknowledge and work with our feelings. And yet, unless we can learn to do this, our relationships and our happiness will almost certainly suffer.  There can be a taboo for men in admitting to and speaking about feelings such as anxiety or sadness, which can come to be associated with weakness. Paradoxically though, in recognising our vulnerability we discover a deeper resource of strength that allows us to meet life openly, rather than having to hide from others and ourselves in unhelpful behaviours.

Psychotherapy and counselling can offer a safe and supportive space where you can explore and better understand your present life situation and the feelings it gives rise to. This understanding can help you to make the choices in your life that are more likely to support the development of your happiness and a meaningful sense of self.

Background and Approach:

My background is in Psychosynthesis which means I use a person-centred and integrative approach, drawing on theory and practice from different areas of Psychotherapy. This helps me to respond more appropriately to your individual needs. The basic approach is through talking and listening, but sometimes other techniques can be useful such as drawing, writing, guided visualisation and exploring dreams.

Sessions last fifty minutes and cost £60. We meet weekly at a regular time over a period that can last from several weeks to three or four years, depending on individual needs.
